More than 10,000 people from around the world expected in Rome to participate in the Jubilee for Choirs  from 21-23 October.

More than 10,000 singers are coming to Rome from all over Italy and many other countries to participate in the Jubilee for Choirs and Liturgical Musicians in Vatican City from 21 to 23 October.

The event, which is being organized by the New Onlus Opera and the Diocesan Choir of Rome, will begin on 21 October with an Educational Conference in Paul VI Hall with the theme: “Sing Mercy”. In the morning Mons. Giudo Marini and Mons. Massimo Palombella will speak; Mons. Vincenzo De Gregorio and the well-known artist and theologian P. Marko Ivan Rupnik will present in the afternoon.

The presentations will be interspersed with testimonies from youth who have used music as a means of evangelization and help for those around them.  For example, Adriano, once a long-term resident of the Bambino Gesù children’s hospital, has now graduated from a music conservatory and brings music to the small patients of the same hospital.  Then there is Giovanni, who came from Turkey and grew up in an Islamic family, but is now a Salesian brother who builds bridges of hope through music.

On Saturday, 22 October, all the participants will encounter the Holy Father at the Jubilee Audience; then, at 18:00 they will gather in one huge choir for a Concert in Paul VI Hall dedicated to Divine Mercy and Saint John Paul II, on the day of his liturgical memorial.  On the hall’s stage, Mons. Marco Frisina will direct the Orchestra Fideles et Amati, the Diocesan Choir of Rome, representatives from diocesan and parish choirs, and a Choir of treble voices composed of around 150 children, for a total of more than 400 chorists who will lead the singing of the thousands of participants.  The Concert, reserved to Jubilee registrants because of limited space, will be broadcast in its entirety the same evening at 22:40 on TV2000 (channel 28 DT).

The three days of the Jubilee event will conclude on Sunday, 23 October with the Pilgrimage to the Holy Door and Mass in Saint Peter’s Basilica celebrated by S.E. Mons. Rino Fisichella.

Before returning to their dioceses and parishes, all the participants will receive the blessing of the Holy Father at the Angelus in Saint Peter’s Square.
